     Throughout my life I have looked to the relationship between words and images as a way of finding connections between our inner eyes and the physical world.  I became interested simultaneously in imagery and imagination as a teenager, combining words and images in creative projects in high school and college, and later refining those interests working as a photojournalist and marketing specialist early in my career, as an educator and researcher for much of my professional career.

     Professor Robert Mertens, Juror for the Fran Achen Photography Exhibition remarked in his critique of "Heceta Head Lighthouse, Oregon:" "this cannot be taught."
