Throughout my life I have looked to the relationship between words and images as a way of finding connections between our inner eyes and the physical world. I became interested simultaneously in imagery and imagination as a teenager, combining words and images in creativem projects in high school and college, and later refining those interests working as a photojournalist and marketing specialist early in my career, as an educator and researcher for most of my professional life, and as a practicing photographer for the past two decades.
As a photographer I have produced several exhibitions that draw upon this connection: "Omowale: A Son Returns" and "Small Imperfections," connect African and Asian languages and their visual representations to reveal the multiplicities of meaning emergent in seeing across cultures; "Poetography" and "Book of Love," use original poetry and the Buddhist I Ching to reveal the symbolic subtleties of imagery and imagination in conversation.
At the intersection of verbal and visual representation, the beauty and spirit of language and life finds expression through the art and science of photography. to let the world reveals itself through you.
