Rhetorical Warriorship began in a course in the University of Utah's Honor's Program called "The Peace Warrior Training Seminar" and evolved over three decades into an integrated approach to embodied communication that cultivates discipline, insight and empathy. While traditional approaches to speaking are grounded in a transactional model, Rhetorical Warriorship advances that tradition through an integration of cognitive and affective understanding. The result is a performance based approach to speaking that promotes competence, credibility, character and civility.
Grounded in a foundational understanding of communication theory and practical application, Rhetorical Warriorship integrates creativity, inquiry and expression into a speaking experience that promotes intellectual, personal and spiritual transformation. The approach provides a precise, concise, and efficacious path to achieving communication excellence and offers an antidote to a communication culture that has become increasingly disembodied, disinterested, and disengaged. It promotes a respect for language that cultivates self-efficacy, self-awareness and an embodied understanding of the rhetorical ideals of community engagement and civic culture: to be a good person who speaks well.
Rhetorical Warriorship offers a path to that ideal that honors tradition, embraces excellence, and empowers expression: the Way of rhetoric as a martial art.
